Hard to believe, but I’ve been sharing my musings on style and taste here for nearly a decade!
It was a rather casual affair back in the summer of 2008, visiting my favorite shops and galleries, and documenting holidays throughout the world – generally our very own Scott Mcbee would snap the the pics or really anyone who was available. Clearly the quality of many of these images was not exactly the best, but there was something immediate and interesting about them, and many found the WIJW concept interesting. Certainly much of the interest the site garnered had to do with the way I put myself out there in such an unusual way. Initial posts were just a few lines and a photo of me on location – a day in the life of a New York based interior designer.
When during that first year I caught the attention of several global mainstream publications – Elle Decor UK, and the London Telegraph for instance – I realized it was time to up my game! I began writing more involved posts and started working with up and coming photographers. They taught me a lot about what constituted a good photograph. Lars Stephan was one of the first photographers I started working with – he’d bark commands at me: “suck in your gut, chin down, stand up straight…!” Having survived all that, I started to realize some of the fantastic creative potential for the images we were making, and I actually began to enjoy the whole process. Since then, I’ve had so many more super chic collaborations.
I hope you enjoy this little stroll down memory lane. We’ll be sharing a bit more of the evolution of WIJW in upcoming posts!
