I’m not sure if it was my recent viewing of the breathtakingly beautiful BBC mini series Brideshead Revisited that has rekindled my interest, but I’m fantasizing about a sojourn in the UK and perhaps a jaunt into the misty Highlands of Scotland!
For Fall/Winter it’s all about tweed and tartan for me. Each season I take inventory of what pieces I’ll need to really create totally pulled together looks, along with a myriad of accessories, including hats, shoes, gloves, etc.
I’ve realized that I’m a bit lacking in earthier colors and textured fabrics and I could really use some more fabulous tweeds! Luckily this Season brings us a spectacular selection of tweed checks, tartans, and plaids.
I came across this handsome hounds tooth check tweed topcoat in shades of brown, oatmeal, olive and burnt orange by Gucci – ask and ye shall receive! This is one of the many pieces I’ve acquired for Fall/Winter to bump things up a notch or two. I can see sporting this outrageous piece with the burnt orange Gucci kicks featured in yesterday’s post (if I manage to get my size) or perhaps with the Etro orange suede loafers I featured in my Spring/Summer Must Haves that are still begging to be worn.
I just saw the film September Issue and I’m feeling quite inspired. Watching Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington at work is a must see documentary for any designer interested in the creative process.
September sets the unabashedly hard editorial might of Wintour against the romantic creativity of Coddington, making for a truly fascinating dynamic.
Coming from this film, and seeing so many major players in the industry, gives me a renewed sense of commitment to pushing the fashion boundaries, and creating new looks for myself and bringing them to our happy WIJW readership.
I recently came across these uber fantastic Gucci orange leather high top sneakers, I have to have these – sadly my size is gone – let me know if anyone comes across these in an American size 8. These kicks are the perfect choice to add a youthful playfulness to a tweed or similar Fall ensemble.
I’m a huge fan of the Gio Ponti masterpiece, Parco dei Principi Hotel in Sorrento Italy. Ponti’s brilliant combinations of white and blue make for one of the most stylish and original designs of the mid-twentieth century. For some time I’ve wanted to create an interior inspired by Ponti’s magnificent work and here at the uber chic Galerie Van Den Akker I think I’ve found the perfect start. Behind me is a stunning cabinet in white and cobalt lacquer, soothingly complimented by an almost oceanic emerald green clear lacquered goatskin parchment cocktail table. The whole arrangement has me yearning for the idyllic emerald green sea and scintillating blue skies of the Amalfi coast – one of those world class hedonist playgrounds.
Basking in the thought of this dream interior-scape, I’m wearing a turquoise and white cotton shirt with contrast white collar and cuffs by Turnbull and Asser, Seaman Schepps cufflinks in precious turquoise, vintage Cartier tank watch from Raj Tolaram medallion print cotton pants in shades of aqua, turquoise and navy by Gucci, silver chain link belt, black leather sandals and white leather bag all by Gucci.
