The French are known for their innovation of scenic wallpapers, yet there is only one firm, Zuber, still producing these by hand with original 18th century woodblocks. I love using these panoramic landscapes when I want to give a room a sense of romance, and dreamlike fantasy. I recently used “Scenes of North America” for a young gentleman’s seaside estate and “Isola Bella” for a dining room in Florida with really beautiful results. I’m pictured here at the Zuber showroom in New York considering this grisaille “Les Courses de Chevaux” for a sophisticated client.
This spectacular wallpaper provides the perfect backdrop for an elegant white pique cotton suit with white and black mother of pearl buttons by Gucci (it’s amazing how dressed up one can feel in a simple cotton suit), Turnbull and Asser turquoise and white cotton stripe shirt with contrast white collar and cuffs, (Turnbull has changed to a much more fitted model on these fabulous shirts much more like a Tom Ford shirt), a black and white silk polka dot silk bow tie by Tom Ford, Seaman Schepps cufflinks in precious turquoise and white gold, black patent leather belt with silver leather trim and grommets, and Gucci leather loafers in black, silver, and white.
