I’ve been obsessed with the Baron de Cabrol’s work since as a boy I first laid eyes on his wonderfully whimsical collages featuring the Duke and Duchess of Windsor at the Château de la Croë. So it will come as no surprise when I say that I was absolutely thrilled to receive a copy of Thierry Coudert’s tremendous tome, Beautiful People of the Cafe Society: Scrapbooks by the Baron de Cabrol.
Very much a part of café society, the Baron de Cabrol’s position afforded him (and his wife) intimate knowledge of a spectacularly privileged realm. Here, through de Cabrol’s dazzling work – rendered in watercolor, collage, and photomontage – you’ll rub shoulders with many of my favorite style icons: Alexis de Rede, Cecil Beaton, Lady Diana Cooper, the Windsors, Mona Bismark, Carlos de Beistigui and many many more – beautiful people in beautiful clothes, and all set in the most fabulous places!
Overflowing with the Baron de Cabrol’s observations, recollections, and art, Thierry Coudert’s incandescent tome offers us a truly unique glimpse into an utterly captivating and rarified world that will provide endless inspiration and joy to all of my fellow creatives, aesthetes, bon vivants, and flâneurs! Do secure your copy directly! Beautiful People of the Cafe Society: Scrapbooks by the Baron de Cabrol.
To celebrate this marvelous book, our very own Scott Houston McBee pays homage to the Baron de Cabrol in the delicious collage below. I am to-the-moon with gratitude for this lovely gift! Enjoy.
