The artist Scott McBee and I recently had the great pleasure to attend the 80th birthday celebration of the noted author John Maxtone-Graham aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2. Our host was the ocean liner expert and incredibly prolific author, Bill Miller. Both Maxtone-Graham and Miller are considered the pre-eminent authorities on ocean liner travel, and have made careers celebrating the trans-Atlantic voyage. Needless to say if you dream of a time when the journey was just as important as the destination, these two authors will take you there!
Celebrating the nautical feel of this excursion I’m wearing a white linen jacket, white cotton shirt with navy and red horizontal stripes, and navy linen pinstripe pants all by Gucci, pocket square in red, white and blue linen by Bergdorf Goodman, red alligator belt with sterling buckle by Ralph Lauren, Gucci white leather loafers and sunglasses.
Bergdorf Goodman Decorative Home has the most extraordinary selection of home furnishings. Every month and a half or so they feature a new and different collection. I had the great honor of producing one of these featured collections a few years back – I brought together vintage furniture and upholstered it in a Brunschwig & Fils re-issue of fabrics by the French textile designer Paule Marrot – This fantastic collaboration was published soon thereafter in House and Garden.
Currently on display at BG is the work of the Argentine architect turned painter Haby Bonomo (see below). One of his lovely landscape paintings hangs above a Jansen style sofa and cushions that are printed with reproductions of Bonomo’s work. As usual, BG succeeds in bringing its customers truly unique and unusual merchandise.
