SCOTT MCBEE AT THE ISLAND STORE

No doubt many of you are familiar with Scott McBee’s marvelous grand scale ocean liner paintings, and he’s been described as “..the pre-eminent portrait painter of private yachts” as well (bloomberg.com), yet like many artists, McBee’s interest are quite varied, and his work definitely reflects that.

McBee has a lovely series of animals and sea creatures which he tells us are largely inspired by the splendid Schleich miniature animals that captivated him as a child. One of his earliest in the series depicted a coral red ostrich on a gilded plaque. McBee generously presented this to our host, the exquisite John Fondas, during a visit to Lyford Cay not so long ago. Fondas — who seems to just get everything right — has the most sophisticated eye, and not surprisingly fell in love with McBee’s painting. Fondas subsequently asked McBee to create a series of sea creatures and birds for Fondas’ uber chic boutique, The Island Store. Of course the paintings were an instant hit and everyone had to have them — the ladies of Lyford have been scooping them up en mass to create the most gorgeous groupings. You too can procure one (or more if they are available!) of these gorgeous McBee paintings for your fine interior.
