My friend Rose Callahan (see her blog, The Dandy Portraits: The Lives of Exquisite Gentlemen Today) is working on the most marvelous book of photographs (with text by Nathaniel Adams) capturing modern day dandies, and I was quite thrilled to be asked to take part! The release is slated for the fall of this year via Gestalten Press, but thought to include this photo (above) as a little teaser!

For our shoot, Callahan envisioned a retro-glam Hollywood scenario at the recently refurbished Waldorf Astoria Hotel here in New York City. In planning a wardrobe befitting such opulent surrounds, my thoughts immediately turned to the evening sets from our friends at M. de Phocas. After a quick consultation with them, they graciously offered the pictured marvelous mix of diamonds, sapphires and onyx—the most perfect compliment to my black silk moire Tom Ford era Gucci dinner jacket. I matched this with a lavender Tom Ford tuxedo shirt, Charvet mauve silk bow tie, and a Turnbull and Asser black and white silk scarf. A splash of Creed Millesime Imperial topped things off.

    Sapphire: The Focal Point

This photograph so elegantly juxtaposes the chevron Turnbull & Asser silk scarf with the wavy, shimmering silk moire sleeve of the dinner jacket, whose effect is seemingly echoed in the vanishing, abstracted studs. And the Florentine Iris middle note of the Millesime Imperial comes across as the sensory counterpart of the lavender and mauve shades of the shirt and bowtie. Yet one more instance of perfection.

Congratulations James! I cannot wait to have Rose Callahan’s upcoming book on my coffee table.

You continue to amaze me with your velvety words, smooth like honey, heavy with mood!

I like the idea of being my own finest creation and sharing that with the world.

    Cheers and Many Thanks

    He is speaking out here!

I will have to go! (maybe even in Santa Barbara!!)

What could I possibly write that hasn’t already been said by CD, and oh so beautifully?….Gorgeous! I cannot wait to add the book to my collection. Congratulations!

  5. James Andrew says:

    Dear Comtesse Lola,

CD’s words are like the most exquisite poetry.

I was so excited to be part of Rose Callahan’s project.

    Thank You!
