Birthday at the Four Seasons

Birthday at the Four Seasons

Another birthday has come and gone, and I’m finding Aerosmith’s Dream On particularly pertinent….

“Every time I look in the mirror
All these lines on my face getting clearer
The past is gone
It went by, like dusk to dawn
Isn’t that the way”

Time really is just jetting by at an exponential rate, and despite the fact that I’ve got a touch of Dorian Grey in me, one does begin to notice the lines, graying hair, etc!

As we age, we inevitably change, and these changes are something to embrace. Nothing remains the same. In fact, stagnation really is more akin to death. One has to embrace and savor every aspect of this journey, wherever we are on the journey. Of course, birthdays do give one pause to reflect, and perhaps one isn’t always exactly thrilled with one’s progress, but perhaps we are exactly where we need to be and all is unfolding quite as it should…delays do not mean denials!

The Four Seasons Restaurant

The Four Seasons Restaurant

All this being said, McBee and I had a wonderful time out at the Four Seasons restaurant. With the impending closure in July of 2016, we thought it a good idea to catch it before it goes. We really are stunned and perplexed that the owner of the Seagrams building would not want to preserve the Four Seasons in its present state. It is the perfect space, but sadly protests seem for naught. Perhaps the lesson is (and this goes for getting older as well), enjoy what one has, while one has it!

  1. Dean Farris says:

    Dear Dorian, uh James,

You look smashing! You do get better with age. I have to say, I love you without the beard, totally clean shaven-

I read in the new PH book you are featured in that Mrs. Parish made Brian go home and shave when he came to work in a stubble-

Love the classic very Duke of Windsor look here-
Too bad about the old 4 seasons- I recall mourning when Tina Chow died- and haven’t been to Mr. Chow since (NY)

Congrats on aging well, obviously living well, and your latest brush with immortality in the new Parish-Hadley Tree of Life tome. Kudos! Bravo! Fab!

  2. Karena says:

My thoughts are much like Dean’s, dear James. Cherish the past, live joyfully every single day and embrace the future!!
Keep celebrating! You look ageless at any rate!

  3. Ditto all the above! I have received the book you are in; and have not had one second to open it! SOON!!!

Alas…..I am not one to look back or regret; but I must say, I did take for granted things (like the Four Seasons) that were classic. I thought they would be preserved. NO NO NO!!

Smart of you and McBee to enjoy it while it is there! There is no insurance that treasures will be preserved!

    I love you!!!!

  4. James Andrew says:

    My Dear Dean Farris,

    You are most kind!

Yes time appears to be standing still!

As you can imagine – I am beyond thrilled and honored to be included in the new Parish Hadley tome- Tree of Life!!!

    Much Love

    My Darling Penelope Bianchi,

You are going to simply J’adore the new Parish Hadley book- Tree of Life- certainly PH spawned the careers of many of our most important interior designers here in the US.

Would love to dine with you at the Four Seasons when you are next in town.

Sadly you are right – life has no guarantees – we most savour every moment while we have them.

    Much Love
