Doris Leslie Blau 2009 Designers Collection

For many years I have loved the elegant floor design at the early 19th century Chateau de Groussay’s Salon Hollandaise, and when I was honored by a request from Doris Leslie Blau to create a carpet for the 2009 Designers Collection, I immediately knew what I wanted to produce! – My carpet design is executed in a luxurious silk with a repeating grid motif comprised of 36 inch squares, (a sample square is shown here).

Also, have a look at my stenciled floor based on this same fabulous design – “The Decorative Floor.”

I am standing in front of a wall displaying my design as well as few of the many wonderful creations by my design contemporaries. I am wearing a Gucci aubergine velvet peaked lapel jacket, Hermes gray silk pocket square, Gucci plum feather weight cashmere turtleneck sweater, Gucci black and white wool mini hounds tooth pants, Yves Saint Laurent black leather “Windsor” loafers, and a black leather tote by Gucci.

Country Chic

I define “Transitional” as a mixture of modern and classical – to this end, I worked with one of my favorite clients to develop an interior integrating both modern and antique elements. We started with a fabulous large scale floral Aubusson carpet from Doris Leslie Blau and added a neutral luxe fabric upholstered Dupré-Lafon chair, ottoman, and sofa, (all produced to my specifications by one of my best artisans). Other select elements include an onyx 1940s Spanish coffee table, a pair of Régence Bergeres covered in antiqued chocolate brown leather, and several carefully chosen pieces that strengthen the overall thematic motif. The final effect is one of comfortable sophistication – a perfect country/chic interior!

I am wearing a Gucci olive nylon box quilted hunting jacket with brown suede details, a Balenciaga chambray band collar shirt, a plum silk paisley Gucci scarf, brown tweed Gucci motorcycle pants, and a Gucci python belt with silver double horse head buckle. “Eton” boots in aubergine suede are Yves Saint Laurent.

A fantastic carpet is the foundation of a beautiful room, and one of my very favorite places to go for amazing carpets is Doris Leslie Blau.

Standing in front of a carpet by the legendary designer to the uber rich, Alberto Pinto – this piece is so chic – its Op Art effect is perfectly counterbalanced by a soothing tonality. Look for it in one of my upcoming projects!

I love the impossibly clean and crisp look of wearing white in the city. I’m pictured here in a Gucci white cotton safari jacket over a Michael Kors ivory cotton sweater with crocheted placket, Gucci python belt, Diesel white skinny jeans, Gucci leather and woven fabric flip flops, and a Gucci white leather bag.
