The Spring Show NYC Highlights

I was delighted to attend the gala opening of the Spring Show NYC benefiting the ASPCA. People came out in droves—every important player in the worlds of fine art, antiques, and design was there. Not only was the venue “fresh, cheerful and thoroughly modern” as promised, but dealers showcased some truly outstanding pieces.

I’m bringing you here a few of my personal favorites.

Carlton Hobbs Gallery, 18th century tiles.

My friends at the superlative Carlton Hobbs Gallery as always had a rather spectacular collection of extraordinary pieces. I was particularly taken by an extremely rare 18th century tile picture from the kitchen walls of a palace in Valencia, Spain, depicting liveried servants carrying food laden platters.

At Alexander Cohane, palm wood chairs from the 30's.

Alexander Cohane, who has galleries in both New York and the UK, had the most wonderful mix of luxurious modernist pieces mixed with some rather stylish antiques—in Cohane’s words, “skilful juxtaposition makes each piece more interesting,” where “timeless meets eclectic.” We, of course, are in complete agreement! I was mad for just about everything in Cohane’s booth, especially this pair of very handsome palm wood chairs from the 30’s.

I’m photographed (top) seated on one of a pair of very important George III armchairs at the Clinton Howell Antiques booth. Howell has an eye for the most beautiful 18th century Georgian and Regency period English furniture and decoration, and his highly curated collection is a must see for anyone desiring pieces that will bring enduring interest and satisfaction. For the occasion I’m sporting a navy blue cotton pique jacket, a Pucci inspired print shirt, black and white mini hounds tooth check silk pants, a black patent belt with silver trim and grommets all by Gucci, Tom Ford black and saddle leather loafers,Cartier “Tank Divan” watch from my dear friend Raj Tolaram, grey and black silk polka dot pocket square from Turnbull and Asser and my fragrance is Creed Imperial Millesime.
