We called the spectacular Tivoli Palácio de Seteais home in Sintra. Its interior is as fabulous as its exterior, and my absolute favorite space is the gracious drawing room where we took tea and cocktails. It has magnificent murals attributed to young French artist Jean Baptiste Pillement who was quite prolific in Portugal at the end of the 18th century. I’ll be sure to replicate them in some shape or form for one of my super chic clients! As you can imagine, the place offers endless inspiration to a designer like your’s truly!

Speaking of inspiration, the famed Monserrate is not to be missed! Mcbee and I spent hours wandering the park and gardens, and exploring every corner of the construct itself. This exotic confection was home to several Englishmen over several decades. Gerard de Visme created the first neo-gothic palace. Later, William Beckford created the garden plan. Years of abandonment followed, and the sight so moved a young Lord Byron that he immortalized the palace (its beauty and apparent demise) in poetry. Later, Sir Francis Cook purchased the estate as a summer retreat for his family in 1863, adding Neo-Gothic Moorish elements and reviving the gardens. Over the years, the estate once again fell into disrepair, but thankfully a massive 2000 restoration has made it open to the public. I just can’t imagine how anyone could let such beauty crumble (and there still seems to be other Sintra estates in need of help!).

For our day of exploration, I’m sporting a Ralph Lauren Purple Label red tartan cashmere jacket, Tom Ford white cotton shirt, black silk tie and charcoal wool/cashmere pant, black silk vintage pocket square, Victoria Scottish agate cuff links, vintage Rolex, Tom Ford era Gucci black suede loafers, Creed Windsor fragrance, and a bit of Tom Ford Bronzing Gel for a sun kissed glow.
