Disco Fever – “Legend has it that this pocket square appeared in a dream to one of the Bee Gee brothers while he was seeking the final touch of their outfit. Thus, Disco Fever became the band’s favourite accessory.” – a fanciful caption from the French store, Pochette Square
A while back, I was rather thrilled to be included in the Telegraph’s 20 Best Blog List; “…the Ultimate Dandy.. Gatsby meets Gucci…” they called me, and they also mentioned that I never leave home without a pocket square.
Of course there are those days when I’m not wearing a jacket, but when I do, you can be sure I’ve selected a pocket square to go with it. Not wearing a pocket square with a jacket would be a horribly missed opportunity. In fact, I’ve never considered the pochette an accessory in the usual sense—it’s really quite functional. Yes there is mopping one’s brow, blowing one’s schnozz, dabbing a tear, and wiping a lipstick stain off one’s cheek, (and we trust that one is only doing any of these in the most dire of circumstance), but of course what I’m really speaking about is aesthetics—functional aesthetics; a well selected pochette can make that perfect counterpoint to the lines of an overly rigorous suit, for instance, or help convey the fact that one’s impossibly wild and disparate palette is absolutely considered! In short it is simply an indispensable way to express one’s sartorial splendor.

Madison Square, a stunning paisley – “Legend has it that this pocket square was a present from Ravi Shankar to George Harrison. He wore it to the first charity concert of history, in the famous concert hall.” – see Pochette Square
I was recently introduced to the chicest online boutique, Pochette Square. There you’ll find the most marvelous selection of color and pattern—a one-stop shop to help complete that elegant ensemble. This Spring/Summer I’ve come up with some palettes that revolve around gray, tangerine and hot pink and to my great delight, Pochette Square had two hankies that absolutely fit the bill. Have a sniff around this wonderful website and create a few of your own legendary looks!
Beautiful post James, good to know about Pochette.com -this post reminded me of being taken to Harrod’s in London, where my chaperone (I was on the grand tour at the age of twenty) bought a gift for me, a gorgeous, and terrribly decadent cravat (ascot) of gold, chocolate, and hot pink paisley, by Liberty. I loved it and wore it to many polo matches, until it was burned in the fire- I hated losing all those Jackie Rogers suits that Tice had left me- hope to see you soon- congrats on your upcoming PB job, I saw where Linda Horn sold the Fatio house known as Villa Today- How exciting! ($15M down from $25M)
Darling Dean,
So happy to hear you enjoyed our post and it brought back some fond memories!
I adore -Villa Today- will have to re-create it in Lyford perhaps.
Cheers

James, my friend, hello!!
I’m 100% in agreement with you on this…wearing a jacket and not having a pocket square, to me, makes an incomplete look. Although a small feature it really adds to an outfit and makes you look that more put together. I call my collection “American Express”…I don’t leave home without them! Superb, as always.
Dear Ramsay,
That is Genius!
So happy to hear you don’t leave home without your pocket square.
Cheers
