Patience and Fortitude

Designed by architects Carrère and Hastings, the 1911 New York Public Library is one of my favorite Beaux-Arts landmarks. The powerful pair of lions that stand guard at library entrance are the work of sculptor Edward Clark Potter. Mayor LaGuardia dubbed them Patience and Fortitude for the qualities he felt would serve New Yorkers well during the hard times of the 1930s depression – Certainly in this economic climate these qualities remain just as beneficial!

Contemplating the qualities of patience and fortitude I’m taking a few moments to enjoy these magnificent creatures and absorb some of the vast aura of knowledge and wisdom contained in this beautiful structure. I’m wearing a smoky pale blue suede biker jacket by Gucci, a Tom Ford pale blue Glenn plaid shirt with french cuffs, Seaman Schepps cuff links are precious turquoise and white gold, navy linen pin stripe pants and silver chain link belt by Gucci, Lanvin sneakers are a turquoise-teal blue, black leather tote is by Gucci.
