Palm Beach Politesse

James Andrew - Palm Beach

James Andrew – Palm Beach

After a few intense days of decorating In Jupiter, I had the great pleasure to visit with some super chic friends at the Palm Beach Polo Club, the hallowed destination for international equestrians, polo players, and enthusiasts.

My friends there are members of a nearly extinct era of gracefully polite society with beautiful old-world manners and charm. Part of this refined world includes dressing well for dinner, and rituals you can set your clock by like crisp cocktails served promptly at five. Needless to say, when I’m in Palm Beach, I’m always very happy to comply!

A dinner at legendary restaurant Renato’s followed by a nightcap at the Breakers was the most brilliant way to commence our lovely stay in the Palm Beach area.

Recalling an era of politesse in Palm Beach, I’m sporting a Tom Ford ivory and indigo silk glen plaid jacket, royal polka dot cotton shirt, dusty rose cotton pant by Uniqlo , indigo leather D ring belt and pink and blue paisley cotton voile pocket square by Ralph Lauren, pearl and pale blue sapphire cuff links, Rolex watch, ivory suede loafers by Tom Ford and my fragrance is Creed Orange Spice.

All the beautiful manners in the world are merely a “frame” to a wonderful, witty, interesting, funny, gorgeous and delightful dinner companion…which would be you! How wonderful to know such dinner parties still exist!

If you don’t mind my saying, I think you and your friends, like Alex Hitz, etc., must carry the torch for those who came before you…and are NOT extinct, but living in small enclaves around the world, such as Palm Beach.

I am sure they will be thrilled, as we all should be, to know that the world of G&T’s at 5, witty repartee, discussion of good books, travel and history, as well as notes on engraved personal stationery will live on. Perhaps you’ll even find someone younger than yourself to mentor? Now, that to my mind is REAL American style! And you’ve got that in spades!

    My Darling Comtesse Lola,

You are so very delicious and your wonderful comments bring a smile to my heart!

    And

I agree entirely with this idea that a few like minded people Alex Hitz et al can do a tremendous amount to raise the collective consciousness.

As well as acting as mentors in sharing ideas about concepts pertaining to “elevated living “.

I find these conversations about style so stimulating.

    Light and Blessings

I am with the Comtesse and with you on this, James. Long live stylish, inspirational bon viveurs. As Oscar Wilde said, we are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.

I also love the title of this post, “Palm Beach Politesse”. Isn’t it interesting how often style and good manners interrelate?

  6. James Andrew says:

    Dear Oonagh,

I adore Oscar Wilde, his wit and wisdom are not to be surpassed.

I have been wanting to use the word “Politesse” for ages – I thought this post to be most perfect and the idea of ” Politesse” terribly important.
Preserving – Polite Society- and encouraging others to return to an era of elegance, charm and sophistication.

    Cheers
