Magical Manifestations

While seeking out a location with photographer Gabriel Everett for today’s post, our intended spot just wasn’t yielding anything of interest despite our very best efforts—as you might imagine, I found myself a bit disappointed.

At some point it became clear that life just wasn’t going to behave, and as there wasn’t anything more that could be done, we decided to let go of those proverbial “best laid plans,” and open ourselves to an appreciation of what might unfold.

You can probably see where this is heading, but I’m going to say it anyways—just this little shift in attitude seemed to make ALL the difference. In fact, we were almost miraculously led to the glorious little Sobriety Garden hidden behind Bellevue Hospital only a short block away from our originally intended location. It’s sort of a miniature version of Guadi’s Park Guell in Barcelona—full of magic and whimsy—a tiny haven for recovering patients in need of some horticultural therapy, and, as in our case, for wandering bloggers and photographers in need of inspiration!

It was a wonderful reminder of all the yet to be imagined possibilities perhaps just waiting around the corner there for us when life is met with an open heart and mind.

I’m photographed (top) by my brilliant young friend, photographer Gabriel Everett, and I’m sporting a Gucci “pucci esq” shirt and black patent leather belt with silver leather trim and grommets, Uniglo white cotton slim cargo pants, rock crystal pendants from the Las Dalias Hippie Market (Ibiza) and, quite fittingly, my fragrance just happened to be Eau d’Italie’s Jardin du Poete.

  1. Danny says:

    Bravo James!
Looking at the shirt, I imagined you were more likely somewhere like the grounds at The Villa san Michelle, hanging on a cliff at the entry to Anacapri, and an essential trip for Capri visitors ….rather than a hospital garden in NYC! That reflects the imaginative and therapeutic qualities of considered gardens. Nice to know too that the powers that be at Bellevue see the value in plants and thought it worthy enough to invest in said greenery…

  2. Dean says:

I agree with Danny 100% – gardens are like little jewels when located in an urban environment. I love your model-from-milan look here, Gabriel did a fantastic job of capturing your true inner beauty and outer glamour!

  3. Pearl Hammond says:
