Lyford Cay and a Nod to Slim Aarons

Slim Aarons was blessed to travel the world on his “…quest for the beautiful and the elegant” as he put it, “…photographing attractive people who were doing attractive things in attractive places.”

His brilliant body of work is a tribute to those attractive people, and if they didn’t all live charmed lives, they certainly appeared to when Aarons applied his craft! Of course staging was crucial to the effect, and after my sublime holiday, I can see why Lyford was one of Aaron’s favorite stomping grounds..

Needless to say WIJW is on a similar quest to seek out beautiful places and celebrate living well, consequently when I’m photographed for WIJW, I often turn to the iconic images captured by Aarons and hope to imbue our images with the same spirit. For today’s post we are paying homage once again to Aarons’ genius in our attempt at the sincerest form of flattery as the saying goes.

I am wearing a Tom Ford “Snowdon” jacket in lilac rose silk wool linen melange twill, white cotton shirt with French cuffs and ivory linen sateen pants, pearl and pale blue sapphire cuff links, purple alligator belt with silver buckle by Ralph Lauren, Pucci silk pocket square and Gucci navy suede loafers, and my fragrance is Lorenzo Villoresi’s Iperborea http://www.lafcony.com/lorenzo/

  1. I think this is one of my favorite photos on WIJW. This one and the quite opposite and wild ‘David Hicks France’ setting photo! You look just great here… perfect setting and composition. Love it! Cheers.

    I LOVE it!

The colours you’re wearing really marry well with your surroundings.

I’m new here, but have been silently appreciating your blog and its’ ethos for years now.

I adore this photo. It’s composition is so you! All the elements are top drawer, especially you. And yes, our favorite, Slim Aarons would be pleased!

I wonder, would it be possible for you to comment more specifically how you go about imagining the fabulous life you know you are meant to live…and are living. I too am a long time Abraham devotee, but with mixed results, even though I know it works! Although i do live on a beautiful tropical island in the Pacific, I seem to lose sight of the grandness i feel we can all create. At the moment, I would love more prosperity and a part time home in Italia, better health….and the first class accourtments to go with it. I’m struggling, even though i listen to abraham tapes daily, and read from their writings.

Daily, I use your idea of “viewing Central Park as your exquisite estate” as a way to stretch my dreams to reality. Any other specific, easy to follow tips…and how to stay there mentally, would be wonderful to hear about from you, dear James.

Besisdes being such an elegant handsome gentleman, I am so inspiried by your creative, can do life!

Surely there are others amongst us who would enjoy hearing the specifics of how you create your dreams! Thank you for your onging inspiration as you share your lovely life in this inspiring blog!

  6. James Andrew says:

    Dear Annabella,

Thank you for your marvelous message!

I tend to not settle for little fantasies, after all , anything is possible so why not something rather grand and outrageous.
I have had some very challenging times in my life as well.
I was learning all these amazing “meta-physical” teachings ,the power of our thoughts etc and things were still not quite working out.
I had to develop a hyper awareness of my thoughts and feelings and find a way to be as happy as if ALL that I wanted was already here for me now.I had to feel a bit of “relief” that all that I needed was on it’s way to me, I had to let go of the “struggle”. When I shifted my focus to ALL that I had to be grateful for , there was a wonderful shift in my energy which seemed to attract more of what I wanted.
I am very aware of “the story” I am telling in my head and I make sure it is a good one, not going to a place of fear or doubt.
These are some simple things that have made marked differences for me.
I hope they are helpful to you as well.

  7. Annabella says:

    Dearest James,

Dean says it best, “how truly divine”… indeed!

I am so thrilled to hear from you and that you obvoiusly put so much heart and thought into your beautifully crafted reply to my question!

You eloquently and concisely cut to the chase of exactly what I’ve been missing. That place of peace between non-resistance and absolute knowing you are where you want to be…and might-as-well dream big, be truly grateful now, and hyper vigilant of staying in happiness…..and letting go of the useless struggle!

I am printing out your wisdom, and carrying it everywhere like a talisman, and soon people may be asking the same question of me. And I will send them to your inspiring blog and say, “Do what James does”. Enjoy his inspiring, inventive beautiful blog . It makes one happy to see and read, and read this wonderful advice he passed on to me and his many followers! The fine tuning, short to the point seminar on living a beautiful life!

Wow, dear James, I am overwhelmed with appreciation for your kindness and your truly divine answer. It gives me chills, in a fabulous way to read! I’ll start my gratefulness routine with sending up great bundles of gratitude for YOU and wishes of more wonderful unfoldings for you. Perhaps that lovely Lyford Cay Home with your name on it is next?

With so much appreciation and many blessings,
    I am,
    Sincerely Yours,
