Lars Bolander is no doubt one of the world’s leading authorities on the Scandinavian aesthetic.

After studying art at the Stolkholm School of art, Bolander worked with the iconic Swedish furniture designer, Carl Malmsten, and then went on to pursue a successful career decorating homes around the world.

Very happily for us, we can share in his passion for all things Scandinavian through what Hamish Bowles describes as Bolander’s “captivating shops” in New York as well as in Palm Beach.

Here we’re invited to peruse and be inspired by a phenomenal collection of the pared down, natural, comfortably elegant, good-for-the-soul Scandinavian pieces we’ve come to know, love, and dare I say, crave! Whether you are looking at a contemporary work or an antique, elegant lines, highly considered proportions, and tonal color schemes pervade. It’s no wonder that the Scandinavian aesthetic continues to be a major influence in the world of interior design today.

I always keep Lars Bolander’s shops in mind as my go-to source for the ultimate in chic, whether I’m working on a New York apartment, a Hamptons beach house. or a Palm Beach retreat.

Do make a point to explore all that Lars Bolander has to offer—I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the great range and selection there, whatever your budget.

Perusing the Bolander New York showroom (top), I’m sporting a slate blue cotton corduroy jacket, wool/cashmere plaid scarf in browns, brown tweed motor cycle pant, python belt with double horse head silver buckle, peccary gloves and brown suede cap toe shoes all by Gucci, Tom Ford brown end on end cotton shirt with French cuffs and contrast white collar, vintage moon stone cuff links, Charvet brown and blue retro print pocket square, leather valfrid tote by Hildestahl, and my fragrance is Creed Orange Spice.

I enjoyed this post, as I recently had the pleasure of meeting Mr and Mrs Bolander. Their home in Florida is amazing. Thanks for this virtual tour of the NYC showroom, you look great.

I have only had the pleasure of shopping the Palm Beach store which was sensational. I remember we bought a fabulous pair of red toleware lanterns for a job in Lyford Cay and a felt top cribbage table for another client in Osterville. They always have unique and interesting things. I will have to make a point to stop into the NYC shop to peruse what I’m sure will be equally as tempting.

Hey hey hey, Victor here. Any idea where I can get this clober in Dunston tyne and wear ?

  11. Lars Bolander has the most wonderful eye for Swedish classicism.

  12. Leo says:

I’m so jealous of your jacket.

I was contemplating buying that exact one but foolishly didn’t. You wear it so well, probably better than I could.

  13. colette says:

great man-ish bag…those swedes – they are brill arent they.

  14. Miguelle says:

Rooms cease to be complacent with a touch of James Andrew, especially when the unflinching curiosity that Bolander must-haves tend to temperately produce…James Andrew will always diffuse elegance as a flower dispenses perfume.

I just stumbled upon this website. After reading 12 posts, I can with confidence say that this is the most ridiculous bullshit I have ever read in my life. You remind me of the chloe sevigny spoof on youtube. Good luck procreating.

  16. WIJW says:

Ha ha John, well yes, fashion and decorating is not the most important thing in the world! And yes, the whole thing can be pretty ridiculous sometimes. And, no, we’re not planning on procreating—for which we’re sure you will be relieved! We ARE flattered however, that you were so engrossed in WIJW that you read twelve complete posts before sending us your thoughts! Makes us wonder. LOL

  17. Leo says:

John, good luck getting a life.

It’s about networking, and having fun at the same time.

    We’re happy – are you?
