INSPIRATION AFRICAINE

James Andrew

I have some super chic clients in Florida who’ve had a life-long love of all things Africa, and their many travels to Africa have provided us (my clients and me) with some fascinating decorative pieces to work with. Despite these many trips abroad, it has been a daunting task to amass enough objects for a room with nearly 15 foot high ceilings, so I’ve been snapping up some wonderful pieces at the newly reinvigorated flea market on West 25th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenues here in NYC. Up until recently the flea market has been a vapor of what it once was, so I’m hugely pleased to have this as a fabulous resource again.

There are several dealers here who specialize in a multitude of art, crafts, and textiles from Africa, and consequently I’ve had great luck purchasing fabrics to make some truly unique one-of-a kind pillows and upholstered ottomans, among many other applications.

African beads

The place has a great assortment of richly colored beads as well, which I’ve used simply as objet du table or to adorn the occasional classical bust for a touch of the exotic. Needless to say, I’ve been feeling quite inspired! I’ll be sure to share more on this project as we get further along.

A rather casual WIJW today, I’m mixing high and low, with a Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply olive linen sweater, Uniqlo khaki slim cargo pants and white cotton pique long sleeve top, Tom Ford woven olive suede espadrilles, Adriano Meneghetti military belt in olive waxed cotton and leather, Hildestahl Valfrid tote Tom Ford, Dimitry sunglasses, and my fragrance is Creed Bois de Cedrat.

    Oh James!
    I love it!
“…in the music room- so look for a piano…”
    As was Ms Scarlett…
..and Colonel Mustard in the Library..

    But who had the motive…
    And the opportunity?
