HELLO 2015

James Andrew New Year

James Andrew New Year

I trust our WIJW friends are easing back into the swing of things? As for me, my psychic tells me the new year will explode (in a good way) for me in 2015, and happily with several new potential projects to choose from, it looks like the predictions are right!

Scott McBee and I cooked a lovely New Year’s repast. Our feast was comprised of some of my friend Chef Alex Hitz’s rousing recipes along with some of our own inspirations. To start, we had an appetizing oyster stew that, as Hitz says, almost makes itself. We followed this with our main course: Coulibiac of Salmon — a 19th c. dish created for an aristocratic Russian clientele with a taste for French cuisine — we do love almost anything “en croute.” We paired this with a horseradish sauce and a side of haricot vert, and McBee applied his artistic genius toward shaping our piece de resistance into a spectacular fish, which really sent the course over the top! Hitz’s “Dorothy” coconut cake for dessert closed the meal with a spectacular flourish.

McBee and I actually reviewed all of our 2014 WIJW posts over glasses of champagne. It was great fun to share the triumphs and tribulations of the past year, taking stock before heartily toasting in the new year. Now that the holiday-daze is clearing, I hope you are all taking time to center yourselves and to find that indispensable silence between the notes that really makes the music, as they say. Here’s to manifesting your very best dreams in 2015!

For my picture today: a take on semi-formal-at-home attire — a Tom Ford era Gucci dinner jacket in charcoal wool with black velvet accents, Le Noeud Papillion white and black mini dot print ascot, Richard James black and white striped cotton shirt with contrast white collar, aqua marine and diamond cuff links by Seaman Schepps, Tom Ford black and white silk pocket square, vintage Rolex, Uniqlo slim jeans, Ralph Lauren black alligator belt with sterling buckle, Gucci black suede Belgian style slippers (not shown), the very elegant Creed Imperial Millisime fragrance and a bit of Tom Ford bronzing gel for a sun kissed glow.
