Every time I’m on 63rds Street at Park Avenue and see the fabulous townhouse Paul Rudolph created for Halston, I’m reminded of Halston’s success story – his modest beginnings sewing for his mother as a small town boy from Iowa – his move to the big city and the amazingly quick ascension to design god status that followed.
While he had gained some praise as a designer in the late 50s in Chicago, certainly Halston’s biggest break came in 1961 when he designed the famous “pillbox” hat Jackie Kennedy wore for her husband’s presidential inauguration. The 29 year old Halston practically in an instant became THE designer to the superstars – a fame that only grew throughout his career, making him the undisputed style maker to the decadent glam Studio 54 jet set and major players like Bianca Jagger, Liza Minnelli, and Elizabeth Taylor,
I love the story, and the promise held within; big city dreams have, can, and do come true all the time – and not just here – everywhere! I celebrate this thought often when I have a moment to step back and marvel at all the possibilities that await.
I’m wearing a royal blue cotton sateen jacket by Gucci a lavender end on end cotton shirt with contrast white collar by Tom Ford, Etro silk pocket square, Seaman Schepps silver pearl and pale blue sapphire cufflinks, purple skinny jeans by Diesel, Hermes Blue jeans blue leather belt with silver buckle, Yves Saint Laurent black leather Windsor loafers, and black leather tote by Gucci.
Nice pairing of the Diesel skinnies with the Gucci jacket James; purple can be a challenge to pair.

James,
Love this color combo of Silver, Pale Blue, Lavender, White and Hermes Blue.
Like Chuck Bass come to life!
One of my dear friends worked for Halston and invited me to a show, there were birds flying and I remember the colors were so incredibly vivid. She took me to the back work room, and I touched a beaded number that was being made for “Liza” – Halston really was a special designer.
Thanks for sharing this post and bringing back such wonderful memories of a life and an era gone by.
