DRESSING THINGS UP

I’ve been feeling a little out of sorts lately – lacking motivation and suffering from general malaise – with no apparent good reason to feel this way. Nothing really drastic, but something I’ve noticed. Of course, there are many possible common causes. Whatever they may be, I’m sure many of you can relate. Life always has these ups and downs.

In times like these, I like to sit with those feelings, breath, and relax. It can be exhausting to constantly have to seek antidotes – there can be a feeling that things shouldn’t be the way they are, and this can easily turn into less than useful thought-spirals.

All is just as it is – no more, no less. The magic is that opening up, being present with the natural state of things, both physically and mentally, can allow our innate inspiration some actual room to be heard. It’s always there, but so often it is simply too clouded by thoughts to be seen or heard. I often talk about the inner dialogue and and the stories we tell ourselves. I think it is really important to be aware of the things we’re constantly telling ourselves – things that cloud your best self. I encourage you to take it easy, let go of the caustic thoughts, and perhaps start to tell a better story.

Additionally one might take some small action – something as simple as dressing up in a fab ensemble can elevate one’s sense of self and shift one’s mood to a higher place.

I have always loved this quotation (often attributed to Regina Brett): “No matter how you feel. Get up. Dress up. Show up. And never give up.”

In that spirit, for today’s post, I dressed up in my Sunday best…and I have to say, I’m feeling better already 🙂 I hope some of these thoughts will be useful to some of you out there. Keep your chin up! Dress up today. Be the star that you are.

To elevate my spirits, I wore this tremendous Tom Ford cashmere wool check jacket, gray and black window pane plaid cotton shirt, purple and charcoal cashmere wool tie, ivory and grey silk pocket square, grey flannel pant, Tom Ford for YSL “Windsor” loafers,Cartier “Tank Divan,” Seaman Schepps grey peal cufflinks, a bit of Tom Ford Bronzing Gel for a sun kissed glow, and my fragrance is Creed Original Cologne.

    My Dear La Contessa,

Indeed- it is ALL too much and everyday a different horror story.

I guess I did not realize how big of an impact or an emotional toll this had taken on me.

Taking some time to get quiet- turn of the news etc helped me to re-group.

I felt like many others might be feeling similarly and thought these some good things to share.

After all we can’t let anyone take away our inner peace- we re-act – hopefully in a positive way that does not give away our power and joy.

    All Best

    JA
