Doorways and Perception

I’ve been wanting to bring back a bit of theatricality to interior design. I adore modernism and minimalism, but I want to see some diversity in design. I love how the legendary Dorothy Draper would make every doorway important through her flamboyant neo-baroque sensibility. I’ve always loved the doorway featured here (above) with its carved stone replicating draped and swagged fabric with intertwined garlands of oak leaves. How fabulously over the top it would be to do a version of this design fo a restaurant, hotel, or personal drawing room – perfect for one looking to make a dramatic entrance, (or a suitably unforgettable exit!).

I’m wearing my red leather biker jacket by Gucci, a Turnbull and Asser shirt in navy cotton with contrast white collar and cuffs, Seaman Schepps cuffllinks in silver pearls with pale blue sapphires, navy linen pinstripe pants by Gucci, silver chain link belt and navy blue leather captoe shoes by Gucci, sunglasses are Dior.
