I recently had the opportunity to meet with the brilliant muralist Anne Harris in her New York studio. I’m pictured here in front of one of her monumental pieces, a commission in progress soon to be placed in a fine dining room. Harris’ deeply poetic works draw inspiration from old masters like Tiepolo, realized afresh through an innovative use of scale and a highly refined sense of color. In Harris’ words, “What I try to create is a timeless room that has its own narrative which transports its guest to another time and place.” We at WIJW can say confidently that Ms. Harris continues to accomplish her mission with great aplomb. I’ve been looking forward to collaborating with Anne in the near future to re-create the “Monet” inspired murals Yves Saint Laurent commissioned for his country house – I also love the look of tapestry upholstered walls like the ones at the superlative Chateau de Groussay – it should be an easy thing to find a good room for just such a work.
