Although Summer is still officially weeks off, we’ve already had some pretty strong blasts of broiling temperatures, and with these sorts of extremes it often seem that style goes out the window. That being said, it is actually quite possible (and I might even say, imperative) to maintain some semblance of sartorial dignity!
Come this time of year, I select crisp cool fabrics: linens, cottons, and seer sucker—and if I have an important meeting or dinner to attend, I’ll often put off actually donning my sport/suit jacket until I’ve arrive at my suitably air-conditioned destination. Coming in overheated with a rumpled jacket and dripping brow would certainly render one’s efforts pretty pointless, after all!
And another note: do find a lighter fragrance to counter the warm weather. I usually switch to Creed’s Original Cologne. or their Bois de Cedrat. I also favor Tom Ford’s, Neroli Portofino. Whatever you choose, no need to soak in it (we don’t want to give or get a headache while confined in an elevator or motoring down Park Ave). I’ll apply a splash of cologne while I’m still wet from a cooling shower—this’ll diffuse things nicely, leaving me with just a light clean scent—ready for a handshake, hug, or closer encounter.
Making an extra efforts to remain chic despite the weather, will absolutely boost your confidence, leaving you feeling cool, collected, and well appreciated for having defied the laws of thermodynamics!
I’m pictured above, dressed for warm day of shopping with a super chic client – I’m sporting a Gucci cotton and silk black and white window pane plaid jacket, Richard James black and white cotton stripe shirt with contrast white collar, Tom Ford black linen sateen pant, antique black pearl cuff links, vintage Rolex, Ralph Lauren black alligator belt with silver buckle, vintage Hermes coral silk pocket square, Gucci black leather tasseled loafers, and my fragrance is Creed Bois de Cedrat.
Que guapo!!!! jajaja

This is a good look for you. You look very good in conservative colors such as black. Bright colors are OK too, but this look suits you very well and is much better. This is also a look that someone could wear every day. 😉
Dear James,
Here’s to hoping those will take notice of breathable fabrics and select those in lieu of sloppy summer attire (ick.)
Your mention of no soak necessary is much appreciated. I was in fact on an elevator with a gentleman the other day, oh my…..there IS such thing as too much of a good thing!
Hello there Wendy,
So thrilled to hear you appreciate my rants on these topics.
All the best!

Dear Oonagh,
I love all sorts of color combinations, yet sometimes perhaps just having a sufficient mix of patterns is enough without needing a rainbow of color.
Cheers
