WHAT IS JAMES WEARING? Rotating Header Image

Bruno Romeda at the Kouros Gallery

I was originally introduced to the elegant work of sculptor Bruno Romeda by my mentor, the legendary Albert Hadley, and I’ve used Romeda’s sculpture on several projects, both indoors and out, as well as in my own home. The austere simplicity of these works belie a highly complex and richly poetic symbolization. Ramada’s sculpture seems to be more a celebration of space itself than of material, making his work well suited to virtually any environment—a designer’s dream!

I recently visited the Kouros Gallery on Manhattan’s Upper East side to look at a monumental Romeda sculpture (top) to place in a client’s garden—it will provide the perfect focal point from my client’s library window, while framing a rather fantastic view of the landscape beyond. The Kouros Gallery specializes in 20th century art and sculpture and also operates a sculpture center in Ridgefield, Connecticut—a selection of important works from around the globe can be seen there on permanent exhibit—it’s well worth a visit!

Admiring a brilliant piece by Bruno Romeda (top), I’m sporting a sensational shearling jacket, cream cashmere turtleneck sweater, oatmeal cotton corduroy pants and python loafers all by Gucci, my sunglasses are KVA for Oliver Peoples and my fragrance is Creed Imperial Millesime. 2. Dean says:

    Dear James,

The Tiffany table setting is spectacular! What talent you have.

  3. Loved seeing your sartorial extension at home with the NYSD feature. Nothing jarred except the mirror opposite the bed. Bad feng shui but easily rectified.

  4. Simon says:

Ohh I love it ! The colours of the picture matches the colours of your clothes.
    Nice jacket James.
    ; )

  5. Francois says:

    James ,
the table setting is tres trop. The chairs with the toile cover are just it. Wallis would have loved that for La Croe. The table and the scultpure make a good point against the chairs.

  6. Dear James,

I was thrilled to have recently discovered your blog. Seeing your aesthetic and incredible taste resonates so much with my own. Upon seeing your apartment I was immediately able to recognize the influence of Mr. Hadley. How fortunate you are to have had him as a mentor. His life and work have been a constant source of inspiration in my own work.

I look forward to your future posts.

    All the best,

    Michael Hampton

  7. Suzy says:

  9. Hanspeter from Switzerland says:

You look great in your outfit, James!!
I also like the Romeda sculpture, because it is not that spectacular!
The table settings are also great, but I have my problems with the table itself. It looks a bit cold. Is it made of metal?

    Have a wonderful day!!!

    Hans Peter

  10. Another great article! And I so envy that coat! 🙂

  11. normadesmond says:

i’m new here, will try to stop in regularly,
but don’t expect too much praise. wouldn’t
want your pretty head to explode.

  12. Jason Puiia says:

Something about Romeda’s work reminds me of Louis Kahn’s architecture… not of a certain time or place and the piece for your clients garden is such a spectacular scale! I also can’t help but envy perfectly tailored pants… still searching.

  13. Matt says:

    Great photos yet again James.
Love the one with you in front of the big Romeda, reminds me of the vitruvian man!

  14. James Andrew says:
