The conversation flows – we share so many of the same passions, beliefs, and ideas. Though I’ve only just recently met her, it seems that I’ve known my gorgeous and outrageously brilliant new friend Shauna Mei for twenty years. Mei had already been a fan of WIJW for some time and having made a virtual connection through a mutual friend, we decided to meet for drinks at Rose’s bar at the Gramercy Hotel – there we spoke on many subjects – on love, beauty, our mutually shared ideas regarding elevated living, and on Mei’s latest endeavor, Ahalife.
Like many of us, Mei has spent a good amount of time sifting through the net – she realized that there were fascinating things to be discovered but no one was bringing them together into an enjoyable, entertaining experience with of course, and here is the thing most of us are missing – the option to purchase. Ahalife is a discovery destination where you can learn about and acquire the best unique products the world has to offer, and it’s all going to be collectively curated by a global group of influential taste makers on a one object every 24 hours basis – I’m deeply flattered to have been asked to be among the first of their curators!
“Our readers/shoppers are confident, intelligent, and busy individuals who want to cut through the noise…to learn about and purchase the best unique objects….they don’t need a billboard or a celebrity..but an genuine appreciation of real quality and design,” Mei tells us. I’m photographed (top) at the Ahalife HQ in New York City with its super chic founder and CEO Shauna Mei – she is wearing a beautiful Vivienne Tam dress and perfectly selected custom made shoes. I’m wearing a Tom Ford brown plaid suit in silk, linen, and cashmere, brown suede tasseled loafers, pink glen plaid cotton shirt with French cuffs and a floral print silk tie, Charvet white and pink silk retro print pocket square, antique moon stone cuff links and my fragrance is Creed Imperial Millesime.
This fine photographic image above is by the uber talented Hadar Pitchon.

James,
Loving your work sir, and been a fan for such a long time, tell me those, when you go sockless, which you have been a lot recently, do you use any no shows? if so could you recommend ones that you like?
I often find i try using a couple of brands and you can see my socks and I’d rather not show anything… so do a full sock instead, as i would rather do something right but in turn then i miss the look that I want.
Many thanks
J
J’adore each time you wear a suit and tie combi.
It suits you so well!!!
Matt
Hello SuitCase,
I actually do not wear any socks, but I will make sure my shoes are well worn in- so they are actually quite comfy.
When it is very hot – I may sometimes use a light dusting of powder on my feet to prevent any irritation.
Cheers
James
