James Andrew and Ashley Hicks
I was hugely excited recently to receive an email from Ashley Hicks, telling me he had seen WIJW and had become “an instant fan.” What an amazing accolade to receive from the son of one of my most favorite designers. Of course when Ashley Hicks invited me to attend the lecture and book signing for his new book “David Hicks – A life of Design,” I made sure I was seated front and center. The lively and fascinating lecture was hosted by Potterton Books at the Grolier Club where I had a few moments to chat with the very engaging Hicks. This new book is a rich illustrated volume containing some of his father’s most stunning interiors and provides an intriguing son’s-eye glimpse into the life of this iconic style maker – a definitive must read for our WIJW friends and anyone interested in the man who set the standard for elevated living.

Great shot, how inspiring ! I shall never forget seeing the David Hicks shop in London, the first time I went abroad, at age 20… It was a masterpiece in scarlet and ultraviolet !
